Jalandhar, July 27
A loaded service revolver of an ASI posted as a personal security officer (PSO) with the Jalandhar Deputy Mayor went missing during a public function on Saturday.
ASI Bhushan Kumar had come along with Deputy Mayor Harsimranjit Bunty during a function organised to welcome newly-appointed PUNSUP chairman Tajinder Bittu at the Circuit House here. In the huge gathering of local Congress workers and supporters, the ASI could not know as to when his weapon was taken out of the case. It was much later after a majority of the people left the venue that he realised that his revolver was missing.
As the report spread and media questioned him as to what had happened, he started complaining of chest pain and was taken to a hospital. SHO, Division No 4, Kamaljit Singh said an FIR had been filed in the case against unknown person(s) under Section 379 of the IPC. “We have been procuring video footage, including those from the CCTV. We have also interrogated some suspects,” he said. Meanwhile, the ASI was admitted to a private hospital. DCP Gurmeet Singh said due departmental action would be taken in the case.
In another incident at the same venue, Malkiat Singh Beera, a Congress worker, alleged that he was carrying Rs 1 lakh, which a pickpocket had taken away.
